Curiosity has always been something that drives me, whether it’s learning about how my clients’ business or industry work, to helping leaders to raise their game, or to learning a new approach to facilitation you can count me in.My top 10 skills were:Knowledge-SeekerCreative ThinkerDeterminationRelationship-BuilderPromoterDelegator (This will make my team laugh)IndependentRisk-TakerConfidenceBusiness FocusThese are the skills that I am both successful because of… and to some extent, successful in spite of. In a recent inc.com article the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs were explored. The surprise for me was that the top entrepreneurs tended to score lower in the characteristic relationship-builder. Since Cultivate is focused on the importance of professional relationships in ensuring success it caught my attention!In my report Gallup describes relationship builders “as people who have strong interpersonal skills that allow them to build a robust and diverse personal network. They rely on relationships to access resources and information essential to the success of their business.” Maybe in a start-up environment it’s the independence, risk taking and That may explain why the action- and achievement-oriented Inc. 500 leaders lag behind in this area.Thankfully there are always exceptions to the rule! I am a big fan and follower of several thought leaders who talk about the importance of cultivating professional relationships; David Nour, Keith Ferrazzi, Adam Grant, as well as Marie Forleo, who was one of the few Inc. 500 entrepreneurs to count relationship-building as one of her top two strengths.Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur?
